SURREY — A young Surrey couple escaped with their three-week old baby boy just in time before their BMW sedan burst into flames in Newton on Thursday night.

They were traveling in the neighbourhood of 78th Avenue and 140th Street at about 8 p.m., after a shopping trip, when the car started smoking. After they pulled over, the car burst into flames.

Nobody was injured.

"I appears to be accidental in nature," Surrey Deputy Fire Chief Karen Fry said of the fire. "It appears to be electrical."
