SURREY — A community forum on Monday April 18 will tackle the issue of young people's involvement in drug trafficking and related violence.
It will be held at the Bell Performing Arts Centre at 6250 144th St., starting at 6:30 p.m., and is being staged by the Surrey RCMP, Surrey School District, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and the City of Surrey.
The forum aims to inform parents, students and residents about strategies to prevent young people from getting involved in the drug trade, provide an update on Surrey's current challenges and make known resources that are available to parents and youth.
Asst. Commissioner Bill Fordy, in charge of the Surrey RCMP, will field questions from the public, as will other speakers.
"Parents and those who work closely with children and youth are out closest allies when it comes to addressing the issue of youth, drugs and violence," Fordy said. "The drug trade is not just a police issue and it is imperative that the community come together to keep our young people safe and on the right path to lead productive lives."
Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
