The City of Surrey is undertaking a major review of its Official Community Plan.

The city does this every 10 years, in accordance with the Local Government Act, to “ensure a relevant growth framework,” Don Luymes, Surrey’s general manager of planning and development, noted in a corporate report to council.

“The OCP sets out the vision, goals, and objectives for the future growth of the city and contains policies, plans, and strategies for achieving this vision,” Luymes explained. “An update to the OCP will ensure alignment with other city and regional initiatives, including provincial legislation requiring increased emphasis on climate action and affordable housing.”

The OCP update will be done in five phases and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025. Council authorized city staff on Monday night to begin the process.
