SURREY — Surrey RCMP and the City of Surrey are looking to bolster a pro-Surrey perspective.

The Surrey Steps Up Campaign is a community program that sets out to increase livability and safety by creating a platform for citizens to share and celebrate their community spirit. It launches on Feb. 22 at the Surrey arts Centre from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

It will feature opening remarks from Mayor Dianne Watts along with keynote speaker Jason Roberts.

Roberts is known for his Better Block Project that uses grassroots involvement to initiate change and build stronger communities.

The event is looking at bringing those living in the city together to learn about the Surrey Steps Up and encourage community engagement in youth, business and neighbourhood streams. Each stream will have its own additional launch, starting with youth on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

“Surrey Steps Up will bring the school, business and residential communities together to engage in creating positive change in our city,” said Watts in a news release. “Programs like this that open communication channels and bridge gaps between service providers and the community are vital to long term success.”
