A man has died after collapsing on a popular trail on Grouse Mountain.

North Vancouver RCMP Corp. Richard de Jong says it happened at around 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

The man in his 50s suffered a heart attack at the halfway point of the Grouse Grind trail.

Mounties, North Shore Rescue and B.C. Ambulance responded and the man was airlifted off the mountain.

RCMP say the man was not transported to hospital and was pronounced dead at the scene.
