Four people were sent to hospital after a fire ripped through a townhouse complex in Surrey late Thursday night.

The blaze began at about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in a three-storey building in the Fleetwood neighbourhood near 159 Street and 87 Avenue.

Everyone managed to escape the building, but four people were taken to hospital to be treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Three of the six units in the townhouse complex were gutted and the other three have significant smoke and water damage.

While the building did have smoke alarms, it was not equipped with sprinklers.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
