SURREY — A driver was injured and a truck was damaged in what police say was “possibly” a “localized explosion” in Cloverdale on Tuesday afternoon.
Asked if police suspect it was a bomb, Corporal Alanna Dunlop said “that’s what we are looking into – an incendiary device.” She said the driver’s injuries were minor.
Surrey RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service and the Explosive Disposal Unit are investigating the incident, near 184th Street and 60th Avenue. Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann said it was initially suspected the truck “experienced a significant malfunction believed to be mechanical in nature.
“It was later discovered that the damage to the single vehicle was possibly caused by a localized explosion.”
Yellow evidence markers littered 184th Street just north of 60th Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. as police collected evidence.
Schumann said police canvassed the area for surveillance video and are looking for “any potential witnesses who may have seen something suspicious.”
