Surrey woman stabbed outside elementary school

5378suspect-2

SURREY — A Surrey elementary school went into lockdown this morning after a man allegedly slashed his wife with a knife during a domestic fight outside.

It happened at about 8:30 a.m., at Royal Heights Elementary. No pupils were harmed.

"For obvious safety reasons, the school was in lock-down for a few minutes until we could confirm the safety of the students," Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said. "Students were never threatened or at risk during this targeted incident between two adults."

Police said the woman sustained small cuts to her hands and she was not taken to hospital. A 34-year-old Surrey man was arrested.

"Charges have not been finalized, as officers continue to investigate the first stages of this case," Paquet said.

Names have not been released. It's not been confirmed if the couple has children attending the school.

Police ask witnesses to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
