Tax scam making rounds

SURREY - As if paying taxes wasn't enough of a pain. Police are now warning people about a scam that targets taxpayers during tax season.

It's gathering momentum, they say. The telephone scam involves a man and woman claiming to work for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). They tell their victims they're in charge of collecting back taxes and threaten them with imprisonment if they don't pay up, either through a money order or gift cards, to cover their debt.

Police advise people to contact the CRA for clarification, if they're not sure whom they're talking to.
