A boy on a pocket minibike struck this truck and became trapped under the axel. He is recovering in hospital.

A 14-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after being run over by a truck last week.

On Friday at about 7 p.m., the boy was riding a pocket minibike northbound on 148 Street near 90 Avenue, when a jacked up truck pulled out in front of him.

The lad hit the front driver side tire, bouncing off the rear driver side tire, and became pinned under the rear axel.

Police say he was not wearing bright clothing or a helmet.

Emergency responders were extremely concerned about the swelling and head trauma and chose to airlift him to B.C. Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

Police are cautioning all parents and kids to be extremely careful as it begins to get dark earlier, bright clothing is preferred at most times. Add to that the speed and low-profile of vehicles like minibikes and go-carts, the combination can be deadly.
