A warrant has been issued for the arrest of former Tsawwassen resident Jamieson Richard (Rick) Glendinning after he failed to appear in court Monday morning (June 11).
Glendinning is facing nine criminal counts including sexual assault, indecent assault and gross indecency.
His trial was scheduled to begin in Surrey Provincial Court on June 11.
A new trial date cannot be set until Glendinning's arrest.
"The warrant's out and hopefully the police can find and locate him," said Crown prosecutor Winston Sayson. "Once he's arrested he's brought into court and the first order of business is to determine his release status. Will he be released again, or should he be detained in custody?"
Sayson said Glendinning will then have to decide whether he wishes to continue to fight the case by setting another preliminary hearing or trial.
"Or he still has the option of pleading guilty, if he so chooses."
In September 2010, the Delta Police Department revealed they had received information alleging incidents of sexual assault in December 2009, and learned there were multiple victims, both male and female, ranging in age from elementary to secondary school students.
When news outlets reported that charges had been laid, two more victims came forward and, as a result, two new charges were laid.
Glendinning, a Vancouver resident, used to live in Tsawwassen, and was involved with the Tsawwassen Amateur Baseball Association between 1985 and 1995.
Sayson said witnesses have come from all over North America for the trial.
"It's very unfortunate that the taxpayers have to spend all this money and the accused did not bother to show up in court," he said.
