UPDATE: Witness sought in fatal Surrey bus collision

The driver of vehicle travelling northbound on King George Bolulevard near 84 Avenue Saturday morning crashed into a transit bus travelling in the opposite direction. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

King George Boulevard and 84 Avenue was the scene of a fatal crash Saturday morning involving a TransLink bus and a vehicle.

On Feb. 8 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Surrey RCMP was called to assist emergency services for a report of a collision between a vehicle and a transit bus.

Upon arrival police learned that the driver of the vehicle had been travelling northbound on King George Boulevard and the transit bus was travelling southbound on when the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the transit bus head on.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are wanting to speak with a witness who was on the bus at the time of the accident.

The witness boarded the bus at 96 Newton Bus (Express) at Surrey Central Station. She is described as South Asian, or possibly First Nations between 30 and 40 years old, and possibly wearing a dark jacket and hat.

She remained on scene for a short time after the collision, then left without providing details to the bus driver.

Police wish to speak to the female passenger about what she may have seen regarding the collision and are asking her to step forward by calling the Surrey RCMP Traffic Section at 604-599-0502 and ask for the lead investigator, Cst. Mike Halskov, quoting file number 2014-18484.
