Updated: Surrey RCMP holding neighbourhood safety meetings

SURREY — Roughly 170 people attended a Surrey RCMP meeting in Sullivan Heights on Monday that focussed on property crime, mail theft and auto theft.

The Surrey RCMP has launched a neighbourhood safety campaign that will feature a series of presentations tailored to specific neighbourhoods. Sullivan's was the first.

The presentations will include information on crime trends, policing initiatives, reporting on crime and crime prevention advice.

“It’s important for police to connect with residents at the local level,” said Insp. Ghalib Bhayani, a community services officer. “I believe the vast majority of residents want to work with police to improve the livability of their neighbourhood. To do this, they need information on what is happening in their area and they need to know the practical and proactive steps they can take to create change.”

Clayton will be next, on Feb. 5, and then it’s Morgan Crossing’s turn on Feb. 12. Whalley’s meeting will be held on Feb. 24and Fleetwood’s will be held on March 4. Check surrey.rcmp.ca for locations.
