VIDEO: Celebrities visit Langley to trade autographs for donations to help abused children

Vancouver Canucks legends Dave Babych, Jyrki Lumme and goaltender Kirk McLean appear at Christmas Food and Toy Drive



Walnut Grove resident Pat Leathem brought his son’s hockey helmet for goaltender Kirk McLean to sign.

“This was my son’s street hockey mask,” Leathem said.

“When I heard about this, I had to come over.”

Leathem said he had decorated his son’s helmet to match the headgear McLean wore in 1994, when the Canucks made it to the Stanley Cup final.

McLean, along with Dave Babych and Jyrki Lumme were appearing at a Celebrity Christmas Food and Toy Drive outside the Langley London Drugs store today.

The ’94 Stanley Cup final players were signing autographs for the price of a non-perishable food item, unwrapped toy or cash for donation.

All proceeds will go to make Christmas hampers for children and women who are victims of abuse.

The toy drive was organized by Aldergrove resident Andy Bhatti, of Andy Bhatti Interventions & Addictions Services with Sagewood Women’s Recovery Center in Maple Ridge.

Bhatti, an abuse survivor, also supports Sophie’s Place which is based out of Surrey but has a satellite office in Langley City.

The centre helps children who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse.
