Police arrested a man in connection with a Langley case in Surrey.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Oct. 16 murder of 56-year-old Robert Keith Green in Langley.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed that the arrest of a man during a roadside stop in Surrey on Oct. 17 was connected to the  homicide in the 23700 block of 72 Avenue.

One man in a car was taken into custody around 10 a.m. by RCMP at 152 Street and 72 Avenue.

The suspect, identified as Jason Francis Wallace, was arrested during a roadside stop in Surrey, an IHIT statement said.

Wallace remains in custody.

Police and prosecutors have described Wallace as a high-ranking member of the 856 gang, which takes its name from the Aldergrove phone prefix.

Members of the gang are known to tattoo 856 on the inside of their lips (either one or both lips, depending on their rank within the gang).

IHIT said the investigation is continuing with assistance from the Langley RCMP, forensic specialists, the Surrey RCMP, BC Coroners Service, and Crown Counsel.

"While police are learning some specifics of what took place preceding the homicide, the motive remains unclear" said Cpl. Meghan Foster.

Police believe witnesses fled the homicide scene before officers arrived, and have yet to come forward.

"Investigators are looking to identify and contact these individuals, as they may have paramount information that will assist in piecing together what occurred," Foster said.

“Homicides related to organized crime can be complicated and lengthy.  The quick arrest and charge approval speaks to the tenacity of all agencies involved, and while this is a positive step in this investigation, there is still much work to be done at this early stage.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

To remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers online or by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
