Cirillo was shot and killed in Ottawa last week, while he was standing guard at the Canadian National War Memorial near Parliament Hill.

Ottawa shooting victim Cpl. Nathan Cirillo – who was killed while standing guard at the National War Memorial at the foot of Parliament Hill last week – was honoured with a procession in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario on Tuesday.

A day earlier, mourners laid wreaths and cards at the site where the 24-year-old Cirillo was gunned down in Ottawa. And in Hamilton on Monday, a public visitation was held for Cirillo at a local funeral home.

“He died for our country, that’s why I came here. This is the first time something like this has happened in our town, since I’ve lived here for 42 years,” visitor Narkewal Grewal told The Canadian Press, at the visitation. “It was really hard for me.”

Parliament also re-opened for public tours on Monday, five days after the attack on the nation’s capital building.
