Two men charged in connection with a March 1 drive-by shooting on Wakesiah Avenue will see their next day in court on March 30.

Armaan Singh Chandi, 18, and Inderpal Singh Aujla, 19, are charged with attempt to murder with a firearm, intentionally discharging a firearm while reckless, use of firearm while committing an indictable offence, disguising face with intent to commit offence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a peace officer.

The two are alleged to have led police on a chase that went through Ladysmith and ended in Duncan. Four police cars were damaged and two Nanaimo officers were injured in the pursuit, according to Nanaimo RCMP.

Chandi and Aujla had some charges stayed at a court appearance last Friday, but it was only a re-ordering and Crown counsel is proceeding with charges, said Daniel McLaughlin, Crown spokesman.

“The charges that were stayed were on the initial police … information," said McLaughlin. "If you put the two of them together, you'll see the counts are the same, the accused the same, the order has changed to prioritize essentially the most serious charge on the information, that's the attempt to murder.”

Both Chandi, a Surrey resident, and Aujla, from Mission, remain in custody.
