White Rock, South Surrey businesses are recognized

SOUTH SURREY - The South Surrey and White Rock Chamber of Commerce's 2013 Business Excellence Awards have been doled out. The awards were presented on Jan. 30 at Hazelmere Golf Course.

The winners and nominees are:. New Beauty Institute won the 1-7 Employees category, in which Lifelong Health and Common Cents Bookkeeping & Tax were also nominated.Ocean Promenade Hotel was named tops in the 8-14 Employees category. Runners up were Peninsula Runners and Singer Olfert Financial Group.Hugh & McKinnon Realty Ltd. took the 15+ Employees category. Also nominated were Westminster Savings Credit Union, White Rock Veterinary Hospital and Investor Group.New Business category honours went to Jan's on the Beach. Runners up were Brabeia Inc. and 23 Seven Performance & Conditioning Studio.The Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society was named Non-Profit Organization of the Year, with Sources and White RockSouth Surrey Hospice Society runners up.Alan Schill, president of Schill Insurance, was named Business Person in the self-owned category. Also nominated were Douglas Charles, retail manager of Penguin Meats Supply, and John A. Makepeace, president of Jade West Engineering Co. Ltd.In the Corporate category, Greg Timm was named Business Person. He is the president and chief operating officer of Pacific Custom Brokers. Also nominated were Karen Donald of The Shops at Morgan Crossing and Michael Stuart of Hazelmere Golf and Tennis Club.FRUITICANA AMONG BEST Fruiticana Produce Ltd. was named one of the top five best small businesses in B.C. for its contributions to the local economy through international trade activities.The Surrey-based company is competing in the Best International Trade Award in the annual Small Business BC Awards Contest. The winners will be announced on Feb. 27 at the Pan Pacific Vancouver.
