Surrey RCMP are looking for witnesses in connection with an incident last month that left a cyclist with significant head injuries.

According to a news release issued Monday, a 61-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the 14700-block of Winter Crescent in South Surrey at approximately 2:45 p.m. June 12.

Following the incident last month, police told Peace Arch News that it looked like the woman was “going to be OK.” One witness reported that an SUV was involved and that the driver had stayed on the scene.

Monday afternoon, however, Sgt. Alanna Dunlop described the injuries as “life-altering,” and said it remains unclear whether the woman fell off her bike or was knocked off.

“As a result, police and family are appealing to anyone who may have additional information or observed the cyclist before she was injured to determine the exact circumstances behind this incident.”

Witnesses or anyone with video surveillance that could help investigators are asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
