A woman was arrested in Delta last week after she had allegedly stole Christmas lights and been driving drunk.

Police received a report of a theft in progress last Friday night on Duncan Drive in the Beach Grove area.

“They reported a woman and a young child in the area taking the lights, decorations and other properties,” spokesperson Sharlene Brooks said.

Officers tracked down the woman’s car and saw the Christmas items, some of them “fairly expensive."

The child wasn’t there at the time, Brooks said, but officers detected the smell of alcohol.

The woman was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, temporarily taken into custody, and then released on a promise to appear.

“What appears on the surface, as some would say, to be a routine call — it actually brought to light some broader issues,” Brooks said. “We have an excellent community that calls us for these types of things.”

She added the ministry of children and family development was also notified.
