A woman who fatally stabbed a man in the neck in an apartment building in North Surrey was found guilty of the murder in New Westminster Supreme Court on Wednesday (Feb. 8).
A judge convicted Tammy Jill Myran of second degree murder for the death of Abdu Basir Ghulam Mohammad more than three years ago.
Myran was 23 years old in October 2008 when she was charged in what police called a "domestic-style homicide." Officers arrived to an apartment building near 110 Avenue and 136 Street on Oct. 4 to discover Mohammad, who had been stabbed in the neck. Paramedics attempted to treat him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim would have turned 33 the following day.
Though Myran had left the apartment, she was located nearby and arrested.
"To see the accused receive a second degree murder conviction for this tragic crime is a very positive and motivating outcome for IHIT (Integrated Homicide Investigation Unit) investigators who continue to work day in and day out to bring the killers to justice," said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound. "This is a very successful outcome to a very tragic and unnecessary death."
Myran is due back in court March 16 for sentencing.
