WorkSafeBC investigating after tree fatally crushes man in Delta

DELTA — A man was crushed and killed by a tree in Delta Saturday morning while working for a company that was clearing trees in the area, police say.

By the time police were called to the scene just before 10 a.m., at 7927 Huston Rd., the man had already been pronounced dead by paramedics.

Sgt. Sarah Swallow said it’s not clear whether the worker was responsible for cutting the tree or spotting at the time of the incident.

“Beyond that, because it wasn’t criminal and because he was confirmed dead on scene, WorkSafeBC took over and conducted the investigation,” Swallow added.

WorkSafeBC spokesperson Trish Knight Chernecki said the man was working for Paul’s Tree Service, an Abbotsford-based business.

The company could not be immediately reached for comment.
