Dana Marie Fister, 67, wife of Dan Bedard, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Born September 28, 1951, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Fister.
Dana worked in education, first at Vancouver Community College and finally in the faculty of law at UBC. She was also an active member of her union and advocated for workers' rights. Dana was very passionate about education and social justice.
She is survived by her husband Dan Bedard, her daughter Amanda Bedard and her siblings Janet, Richard and Steve. Her husband, her daughter Amanda and her sister Janet were at her bedside at Surrey Memorial the last nine days of her life.
Dana was a renowned organizer of Christmas house parties. She would plan all year round to select a special gift for each person attending. She loved to travel. Dana was a scooter fanatic, a lifestyle she developed during her holidays on the Greek Islands. Dana's family would like to thank the compassionate care she received from the nurses of the SMH Cancer Palliative Unit.
Friends and family will attend the Fister-Bedard home for a celebration of Dana's life Saturday October 20 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
