DAVID PAUL MARKOWSKI

April 15, 1954 – July 27, 2005

It is with deep sorrow that family and friends announce the death of David Paul Markowski. Dave was predeceased by his father Ed, and is survived by his much loved wife Diana; his sons Will, Gavin and Edwin; his stepchildren Amanda and Ryan; his mother Mary Murphy MD, brother Steve (Joy) and sister Christine (Gordon).

Dave was born in Princeton, BC and grew up in Cloverdale, BC. He graduated from Lord Tweedsmiur High School and later from UBC. After high school David travelled the world and learned to be a world citizen, he had a wonderful ability to make and keep friends.

Dave "Squad" played rugby throughout junior high and high school, then club rugby with the Surrey Beavers. Dave continued playing rugby with Valley Vintage, playing his last game in September 2004 just before he became ill.

Dave died of a Sarcoma, an unusual form of cancer which did not respond to the best efforts of the BC Cancer institute and Dr. Knowling. We would like to thank the Mission home care nurses and Mission Hospice society for their kindness in caring for Dave during his final illness.

It is unfortunate that Dave’s life was cut short, when things were going well for him, but we can take comfort in knowing that he lived the short life he had with enthusiasm and kindness and was able to spread sunshine to everyone he met.

Dave will be greatly missed by friends and family. The world is a little better place for Dave having been here. If donations are considered in his memory they could be sent to the BC Cancer Society for research into prevention or early detection.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the Whonnock Lake Centre in Maple Ridge, August 2 at 1:30 pm, followed by a Wake at his home in Mission. Those wishing to attend should consider wearing brightly coloured clothes in Dave’s honour.
