Betty (Elizabeth Yee) Sing born Toronto ON. December 12, 1925. Passed away peacefully July 12, 2022. Predeceased by husband George Chen (1999), grandson Darcy Stuart 1973, Parents Yee Lock, Hon Ho J, brothers Harry, Willie and Arnold, and sister, Christine.
Survived by daughter Laura, sons Stuart and Geoffrey. Grandchildren: Anna-Lise, Gregory, Melissa, Brittany, Nicholas, Rachel and Daniel. Great granddaughter: Evelyn. Great grandson: Bennett James. Sister Kathleen.
Was schooled in Victoria, graduating from Victoria High School 1944. Entered Nurses Training at St Joseph's School of Nursing. Graduated in 1947.
Worked at Kelowna General, Vancouver General, St Paul's and Royal Columbian Hospital until retirement in 1991.
While the children were growing, helped with many of their activities, including: PTA, President Surrey Minor Hockey, statistician for Surrey Lacrosse and fundraising with the Whalley Legion Band.
Loved travelling with George to the US - Palm Springs and Mesa.
Enjoyed everything to do with pandas.
After retiring, became a member of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Auxiliary dedicating her time to a variety of important projects. Opportunities included: many hours in the lottery booth; Strawberry teas for extended care patients; organizing the BCHA conference at Coyote Creek; the 60th anniversary celebration for the SMHA; compiled a book documenting the accomplishments of the SMHA and help create the SMHA badge
Other volunteering by Betty: Vancouver Sun Run (for 20 years), False Creek Dragon Boat Races, Run for Health - SMH, World Police and Firemen Games, Surreys Children Festival, Globe 90 Expo, Orpheum Theatre, The Air Canada Open, and the Bell Performing Arts Centre 2005 Named Community Mentor of the year by the Surrey / North Delta Leader

Betty's last great gift of giving is the donation of her body to: UBC Medical School for the purpose of anatomical study and medical research.
