He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Janet Vernon. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joan of 58 years, his sons Steve (Sabrina), and Craig (Stacey), daughters Christine (Dan) and Cathy (Paul). He was known as Papa by his beloved grandchildren: grandson, Jonah, and granddaughters, Elizabeth, Emily, Gemma, Esme, Alexia and Clara. He is survived by his brothers, Dave (Linda), Bruce (Suzanne) and Stan (Donna).
George was known for his great sense of humour and his boisterous laugh. He made friends easily and knew how to make people feel at ease with his warm personality and encouraging words. He never met a stranger. He was a talented artist, a voracious reader and a lover of music. His natural connection with horses, dogs and cats was truly special to witness. He and his family, and lifelong friends, Rick and Marion Richards, spent many years boating in the San Juan and Gulf Islands where he was truly at ease and in his element.
