In Loving Memory ~
On Thursday, October 31, 2024, our beloved Mum and Grandma peacefully passed away at the age of 97. Helen was born at home on April 24, 1927 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to Edna May and William Alley Gammon.
Helen was the last of her immediate family which included her half-brother Bill, as well as John, Bob, Jean Halverson, and Allan.
In 1931, following her father's passing, Helen and her family left the Prairies for Vancouver. Rather than being hardened by the difficult experiences she faced growing up during the Great Depression, she always remembered how lucky she was to have a loving family. We all appreciated her unwavering optimism and good humour.
In 1949, she married Bill and they were happily married for over 60 years prior to his passing in 2010. They lived in Port Alberni, Saskatoon and Vancouver before they built a home in North Delta in 1969. Helen particularly enjoyed her work as a Crossing Guard at Hellings Elementary for many years. In 2012, Helen moved to Amenida Seniors Community and had so much fun with new friends before transitioning to a long-term care home in 2017.
Helen leaves behind her daughter Amy, son-in-law David Nelson, and most notably, her adored grandchildren, Adam and Isabel Nelson. She is survived by nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law, Jean Donaldson.
We would like to thank the wonderful people of Spruce House at CareLife Fleetwood. We could not have walked this path without them.
Helen will be laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery. There will be no service by request, except for a family gathering graveside.
