Hilda May Burns

June 3, 1929 - June 26, 2024

Hilda May Burns (nee Cranston) passed away peacefully on the morning of June 26, 2024 at the age of 95 in Surrey after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Matthew. She is remembered and loved by her sister Betty Reid (John), her daughter Brenda Locke (John), her son Lorne Burns (Shelley). Hilda was adored by her four grandchildren, Ashley Hangartner (Jesse), Katie Locke Longley (Lenny), Ryan Burns (Jasmina) and Trevor Burns (Tianna) and was "GG" to four others - Logan, Lexi, Nyx and Milo. She will be missed by an extended family of nieces, nephews and others. She also had many cherished neighbours in Glenwood Village on the Park and friends at the City Centre Church (formerly Whalley Presbyterian).

Hilda came to Canada from Glasgow, Scotland in 1948 and over the many years somehow managed to maintain a fairly strong Scottish accent. She will be remembered as a warm and loving soul who cared for her family above all. She was extremely proud of all of her family and took great interest in any activities they were involved in. She road every wave of emotion as she followed and actively supported Brenda's political activities.

If you met Hilda once, the next time you met her she would call you "Pet Lamb" and by the third time, it would just be "Pet." Under her gentle nature, though, was a fiercely independent and tough fighter who lived on her own until four weeks before her passing and was driving her car up to her 94th birthday. In her latter years, few things brought her as much joy as watching her beloved Canucks hockey games and she especially loved watching them with her family.

Hilda will be remembered at a celebration of life will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11.00 am, the Centre City Church, 13062 104 Ave, Surrey, BC
