Sykes, Joyce Florence (nee Godfrey)

September 30, 1924 - January 2, 2009

Passed away in Surrey Memorial Hospital on Friday, January 9, 2009 after an extensive hospital stay and a fight that would put most to shame.

Joyce is predeceased by her parents Sydney and Florence Godfrey (nee Pritchard), Sister Ellen, her husband Bill Notation (1957) and her husband Nicholas Sykes (2001). She will be greatly missed by her children, daughters, Sharon (Orrick), Sydney (Oleg), Debbie and only Son, David (Kim); Grandchildren, Sheila, Stacey, Shannon, Larissa, Sasha, Nicholas and Nathan, Great Grandchildren, Robbie, Nicole, Zachary, Kierstan, William, Kaitlyn and Lilyanne as well as many In Law's, Nieces, Nephews and close friends.

To say that Joyce earned her wings is an understatement; she touched the lives of a very large number of people in Countries, Cities and places too numerous to count (including the small Villages of Cache Creek and Ashcroft) and in her favourite winter vacation spot, Palm Springs, California.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Fleetwood Villa (especially her dear friend Ellen Jalbuena), where Mom resided from 2005-2008 as well as her long time Cardiologist, Dr. Michael Epstein and the "team" of Physicians, Specialists, Nurses and Staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital who helped to keep her "huge" heart alive and full of life and love for longer than many thought would be possible. Special thanks to Debbie's "Ed" who had an amazing connection to "Mamma Mia" and was there for her through her final hours.

Funeral Service will be held at Christ the Redeemer, Anglican Church, 16613 Bell Road (Formerly known as 57A Avenue), Surrey, BC V3S 1H7 (604) 576-2216 on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Followed by Internment of Ashes at Christ Church Cemetery (directly across the street). Funeral Reception will be held immediately following Internment at Sunrise Executive Golf Course (Banquet & Conference Centre), 5640-188th Street, (corner of 188th & Hwy 10), Surrey, BC V3S 4N5.

In lieu of flowers the family would request donations to be forwarded to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation (BC/Yukon) 1212 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6H 1G6 www.heartandstroke.bc.ca or the Canadian Cancer Society (BC/Yukon) 565 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 4J4 www.bccancerfoundation.com
