Kenneth Brian Burgess

September 8, 2018

September 27, 1933 - September 8, 2018
Born in Tottenham, Middlesex, England to Florence Bertha Winters (nee Street) and Anthony T. R. Burgess, Ken immigrated with his mother (a war bride) and two older brothers to Canada via the RMS Queen Mary, arriving in Halifax on July 4, 1946. With their new stepfather, Sidney, the family moved to the Vancouver area where Ken attended John Oliver Secondary School.

Ken proudly served a two-year mission in Arkansas-Missouri for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (1957 - 1959), after graduating from UBC (1956) as an English-French major. He later met and married his sweetheart, Lucille Stetzl. With her encouragement, Ken successfully completed his professional teacher's training in 1960 and subsequently became employed by the Burnaby School District for the next 36 years (go Cariboo Hill!).

Ken passionately pursued family history and French extraction work. Throughout his life, he served in many church callings such as high councillor, teacher, and clerk. When time permitted, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: music, reading, Mr. Bean, and rice pudding!

Ken is predeceased by brothers Melvin, Ron, and Raymond. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years, Lucille; his sisters Christine (Wayne) and Valerie (Henri); his children Suzanne (John), Stephen, Debbie, Michelle (Bill) and Robyn; as well as 12 grandchildren and other extended family, friends and colleagues.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6270 - 126th St., Surrey, BC.

Interment will take place at Valley View, 14660 - 72 Ave., Surrey, BC Date and time to be determined by the family.
