Kenneth William Smith passed away quietly in his home on June 5th, 2019 with his wife next to him. He was born in St Paul, Alberta Canada, on May 17, 1937. His parents Kenneth and Barbra (Schulmeister ) moved to Vancouver, BC in his early years for work. As a young boy he was sent on the train to his grandparents in Alberta each summer to work on the farm which he enjoyed thoroughly. He attended schools in Vancouver and at an early age went to work. He had several careers in the forestry industry from supervising the building of logging roads to wholesaling lumber overseas, as well as retail.
After retirement he loved volunteering at the Senior Center in Surrey, BC and worked the Bingo program. He also enjoyed golfing and fishing. He loved photography. His passion was woodworking and he loved making furniture.
He was married to Mary J Smith in 1957, and leaves a son Brian Smith (Charlotte) and a daughter, Debra Smith Harrison (Joe), and grandchildren Nick Smith (Lindy), Kaitlen Smith (Evan), Brianne Valdes (Victor), Adrian Beaulieu, and several great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister Bea Baker (Dick), and sisters Shirley Wade and Hazel Minchau.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Marie Baxter Smith in 2008 and leaves her daughter Carla Auric (Paul), her daughter Cassie, and son Anthony (Danielle). He married Mary (Sydnor) Stanton from Auburn, Washington in August of 2010. They met on a Panama cruise and relocated to Mt Vernon, Washington. They made a lovely home and shared their passion for gardening. He loved his cat Charlie, his home, working in his shop, and birdwatching. Ken and Mary enjoyed traveling and were able to explore most of the world over the last eight years.
He will be missed. A private family celebration was held according to his wishes. Remembrances may be made to your favorite animal shelter.
