Margaret RANK

January 16, 2005

RANK, Margaret Grace (1915-2005) A true love storey came to a close recently. Margaret Rank's life came to an end fairly suddenly on January 16, only 7 weeks after losing her beloved husband of 52 years, Louis Rank. Survived by sister Marian Neely, mother-in-law Helena of Kelowna, as well as sisters-in-law Amy Gayfer and Frieda (Walter) Sorge of Salmon Arm and Linda Stephen of Kelowna, brother-in-law Walter (Margaret) Rank of Ottawa. She is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Margaret & Louis were married in 1952, and both taught school for many years in Grand Forks and Christina Lake. They enjoyed their homes in Christina Lake and in Surrey, all their friends and neighbours, and their travels together. At home they were inseparable. Margaret looked after Louis at home for many years as he suffered from multiple sclerosis. Even though they were forced to live physically apart due to the later years of his illness she had unforeseen strength in looking after him, going every day to visit and care for him, inseparable in spirit still, pushing the heavy wheelchair as long as she was able across the road to Knight & Day Restaurant where the staff were wonderful to them both. While at home on her own she lived protected and cared for by many wonderful neighbours and friends. Margaret will be lovingly remembered for her graciousness as a hostess and her imagination and creativeness in whatever she did, whether painting or gardening or designing. Louis was purely and simply a gentleman and how they found each other was wonderful. Margaret was lucky and so was Louis as life partners, right to the end. The family wishes to extend special thanks to all the staff of Shirley Dean Pavilion, Charles Barham Pavilion and Surrey Memorial Hospital, and Comcare, for the compassion and care they provided, as well as thanks to the great staff of Handi-Dart. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, Attn: Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, 2268 Pandosy, Kelowna, BC V1Y 1T2. A service will be held at Fraser Heights Funeral Home on Friday,January 21st at 3:30.
