July 10, 1936 – June 29, 2021
Passed away peacefully in her home a few days before turning 85. She will be remembered for her fierce independence and determination. Family will need to find a new gathering place for the big family meals she enjoyed preparing.
She has been fondly remembered by all her Woodward’s Department Store colleagues who she warmly referred to as family. She was often called “Toy Grandma” for all the years she worked as the manager in Woodward’s toy department.
She was predeceased by father John Henry Robertson and her mother Gerty, her sister Nina May Pellikaan and half sister Jean Ann Reilly.
Survived by her two sons Lorne (Lori Bowie) grandsons Aidan and Liam; and Dale (Hollie Flint) and granddaughter Jami Dee (Yrvin) and great granddaughter Marley, grandson Branden Lee (Brianne) great granddaughters Kenley and Ayla and Grandson Dustin Blake.
She worked hard her entire life raising two boys as a single mother. Although she had struggled with remaining independent in recent years, she was determined to stay in her own home and left us on her terms. She lived a simple life of hard work, and never wanted for anything.
Even in retirement she continued to work assisting old friends who wholesaled in the toy business and she continued volunteering with the Hospice and Surrey Fire Fighters Thrift Store until pandemic restrictions would not permit it. Family would like to thank emergency services, staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital and Laurel Place for their care of Toy Grandma.
In keeping with her wishes there will not be a service, family will gather to celebrate the life that was Toy Grandma at her home.
