Mary JENSEN

December 1, 2013

Jensen, Mary (Nee Derbowka). May 29, 1913 - Dec. 1, 2013. Our much loved mother and granny passed away peacefully at Blenheim Lodge with her daughter, Joanne, by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Ed, in 1993. She is greatly missed by her two daughters, Joanne (Larry) Tench, and Lynne (Ken) Larson; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, plus two soon to be born. Mary was born in Radisson, Saskatchewan, and grew up on a homestead near Borden, Saskatchewan with her 4 brothers and two sisters. She met Ed in Victoria and was married there in 1945. They moved to Surrey where she remained until 2008. As a long time resident of Surrey she will be remembered as a keen bowler, a score keeper for the Whalley Little League, line dancer, golfer and a prolific walker who found and returned many wallets. Her passion was her garden, particularly flowers, but she also loved sewing, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. Mary took great joy in gathering the family around her for home-cooked feasts. She survived many major illnesses but never stopped her walking. She took up traveling in her 80s, venturing away from North America for the first time. She lived on her own into her 90s when macular degeneration made life more difficult, although it didn't slow down her walking, wits, or shopping for snazzy clothes. Thanks to the staff both at Blenheim Lodge and VGH for their care and kindness. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Dec. 21st at the Knox United Church at 5600 Balaclava Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB would be appreciated, at P.O. Box 9410 Stn. Terminal 1, Vancouver, BC V6B 9Z9
