Mary Rutledge (nee LeMere)

May 25, 2020

May 25, 2020
In her 100th year, on May 25, 2020, Mary left us. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, brothers Joseph, George and Arthur, and sisters Jean and Lorraine. Mary was born in Somerset Manitoba. The family moved to Winnipeg where she resided until the age of 18. She moved to Toronto and met her husband and they were married in 1948. They moved to Winnipeg and Mary became a fashion model for Eaton's department store and in television, and she went on to work in showrooms for coat manufacturers.
She and Frank moved to Vancouver in 1972, where she worked as a leasing representative for a real estate developer. They lived in Kelowna for three years and then moved to a lovely trailer park in Fleetwood. They enjoyed spending time in Arizona. She became an extra for movies with Blanche MacDonald (10 movies in two years) and also modelled for ads with London Drugs and Sears, and she was featured in a CP Air commercial.
She retired and joined the Fleetwood Centre in Surrey in 1995, where she kept busy with the senior's committee as a volunteer. She also enjoyed card games and carpet bowling. After she lost her husband in 1999, she organized cruises and vacations for a group of friends and travelled quite a lot until just past her 90th birthday. She began residing at Arbourside Court in September 2012, where she participated in many activities and often won at Bingo and Reno Keno. She was very social and loved to tell jokes and laugh. She was a popular resident and is dearly missed.
Mary is survived by her step son Don Rutledge and family, many nieces and nephews, including those closest to Mary in her later years, niece Jane Ann Mintenko (nee Rutledge) and family, and nephew Trevor LeMere.
She has been cremated and there is no service at her request.
