In Loving Memory ~
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear sweet Mom. After a fall on December 23 and breaking her hip, Vi waited patiently for a surgery date. On December 26 she bravely went into surgery with a positive attitude that whatever the outcome she was okay. Heaven has a new angel as she wasn't able to overcome her failing heart.
Predeceased by her son Denny (1969) her father Ray (1973) her mother Jean (1994) and her husband Don (2009). Vi is lovingly remembered by her children Sherri (David) Bailey, Sandra (Burrows) and Michael Kruissen. Her grand children Graham Bailey, Hannah Bailey and Cullen Burrows.
Vi was Mom, Auntie Vi and Grandma to all she took under her wing. Vi was born in New Westminster and the only child of Ray and Jean Leary.
She came from a huge family of Aunts, Uncles and many many cousins. They spent her school years moving around the lower mainland and therefore she went to almost every school there was.
Out of high school she began working for BC Telephone company and met and married Don in 1956. Once their son was born they dreamed of owning their own home so moved to McBride to earn a better wage and save for a down payment.
They returned to Surrey and purchased their home. With hopes for a bigger family they adopted their first daughter (Sherri) 1963 and then were blessed with their 2nd daughter (Sandra) 1966. With the passing of Denny in 1969 they still had so much love to give they adopted another son (Michael) 1969.
Mom cared deeply for everyone she knew and was always there for anyone who needed her help.
The friendships she made over her lifetime were epic, she kept in touch with everyone through luncheons (Woodward's gang), letter, cards and in the later years phone calls.
Our life was rich and full all thanks to the time and effort Mom put into our family and friends. She came from simple means and made the most of every situation every day. Mom was positive and encouraging, hopeful and loving and was always looking for a big hug.
Mom was there when we needed her, she gave us her strength and determination and we are eternally grateful.
We know she loved us more than life itself, as we did her.
Mom was quirky and kind, funny and the strongest soul you would ever meet. We will miss her every single moment for the rest of our lives.
Your pain is gone, but your love lives on.
Donations in Viola's name can be made to the SPCA.
