Walter Karpiuk, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at his home in Surrey following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Donalda (Parker) Karpiuk; sons Richard (Linda), Douglas (Louise), Scott (Susan) and Stewart (Charlene); grandchildren Lucas (Lesley), Julie, Cameron, Myles, James, Charles (Margarita), Thomas, Lewis and Nora; great grandchildren Liam & Lila and many close relatives and friends.

Walter was born in Rocky Rapids Alberta, the son of Adam & Sophie (Selewecha) Karpiuk. In 1939 his family moved to North Surrey and settled in the Whalley area.

He attended Grosvenor Road Elementary and Queen Elizabeth High School. Walter met his wife, Donalda Parker in 1950 and they were married in 1953. They worked together throughout their years in business.

Walter worked for B&K Fuels and in 1954 transitioned to owning his own home heating oil business (Walter Karpiuk Ltd.) when Imperial Oil (Esso) offered him a distributorship. His company served the Surrey area for 24 years and was one of the first businessmen to include his picture in his business ad in the paper. He served on the Surrey Parks & Recreation Commission, was a member of Kiwanis and Lions Clubs and was involved in the Whalley Little League.

In 1978 he sold the oil business and moved north of Fort St John, where he owned and operated Pink Mountain Motor Inn for over 14 years. After retiring in 1992, he returned to North Surrey.

Walter loved Jesus Christ and committed his life to Him.

A funeral service will be held on September 29th, 2018,10am,at Valley View Funeral Home in Surrey.
