Driving skills differ

People that emigrate here, no matter how long they've been driving, should do driver education training.

Reading the recent letter on lack of driver courtesy made me ponder.

Driving in different parts of the world requires different set of skills. Drivers in some parts of the world follow the “rule of the jungle” and push and shove their way in, which does not work in countries such as Canada.

Other countries have roundabouts/islands in the middle of the road, which are only just beginning to make an appearance on some roads in Canada.

The long and short of all this is, that when a person emigrates from another country, even if they have been driving for 20 or more years, they should be required to undergo driver education training and be re-tested for Canadian conditions (e.g. snow) and regulations.

Only then will the roads have more percentage of the drivers that have “Canadian” mindset to driving.
