Fishery has no impact on stocks

The recent salmon fishing closure on the Fraser River below Mission is totally unwarranted.

The recent salmon fishing closure on the Fraser River below Mission is totally unwarranted as this fishery has zero impact on threatened sockeye stocks.

The recreational fishing community  appreciates the concern for summer sockeye and accepts the closure above Mission with the proviso that all user groups comply.

Closing the river below Mission is not required and impacts the angling opportunities of seniors and families with children enjoying the remaining days of summer.

It should be noted that within DFO staff, there is not unanimous agreement that this closure is necessary.

Millions of  pink salmon are currently entering the river, providing a wonderful opportunity for all to enjoy this resource.

The current closure denies  access to these fish, which can be harvested with no impact on other species.

This closure should be rescinded immediately.
