Editor,
The lesson from this weekend’s election is that B.C. needs a new political party to keep the mainstream ideologically driven parties in check. The role of the new party should not be to govern but rather to drag whichever mainstream party forms a government back to the centre.
The Green Party has proven to be too much of an NDP surrogate to be a credible player for this role.
At the present time, B.C. voters only have two bad choices, the NDP and Green Party on one side and the B.C. Conservative Party on the other. I suspect a lot of people held their noses firmly while voting as I don’t believe either choice represents the thinking or values of the majority of B.C. residents.
Ideally the new party would only run candidates in a limited number of ridings, with the objective of electing enough MLAs to keep governing party excesses and mismanagement in check.
