Editor,
With our provincial election over and a federal election probably coming in the near future, I'm reminded of what keeping some of those campaign promises has cost us taxpayers. No matter if it's federal, provincial, municipal elections or which party wins, it seems they waste billions of our tax dollars to satisfy their egos more than doing good for us taxpayers.
As of this day, travelling on Highway 99, we would be travelling across a new eight-lane bridge instead of waiting another four to five years for a six-lane tunnel at billions more in cost.
As of this day in Surrey, we would be travelling on a new LRT system, a system that is used all over the world with great success. The Surrey to Langley SkyTrain extension was going to get built sometime anyway, and probably on the same timeline it's on now.
If a memorandum had been held in regards to the police change in Surrey, most probably, as of this day, Surrey would have millions of dollars in their coffers to spend elsewhere. Also, our taxes would be lower and there would be up to 170 more RCMP policing our streets.
I'm tired of our politicians writing off billions of our hard-earned tax dollars like it's chump change.
