LETTER: Vancouver letter writer is only one fanning flames

The Editor,

Re: "Rasode's flame-fanning after murder disgusting," the Now letters, Jan. 9.

I was puzzled and annoyed by the letter from A.G. (Alex) Tsakumis of Vancouver.

I take quite a different view of Coun. Rasode's statements admitting that Surrey needs to do more. I don't believe Mayor Dianne Watts or the other councillors would disagree with her. I believe that our mayor and council, Surrey Crime Prevention, the RCMP and many other caring engaged groups and individuals are doing their best to work together to reduce crime in our city and that they would all agree that, notwithstanding the successes achieved, there will always be room for improvement.

The suggestion that Rasode's comments are "alarmist or flame-fanning" is very bizarre. By stating that more needs to be done, she is opening the door to dialogue and change.

As a resident of Surrey, I would suggest that Tsakumis, who lives in Vancouver, is the one doing the flame-fanning.
