LETTER: Why did the ‘Now-Leader’ print this offensive pose?

A kid’s colouring page that the Now-Leader recently published from the New Westminster & District Labour Council’s website (nwdlc.ca) is offensive, writes one reader. What do you think?

Re: “Virtual event will celebrate working people Monday,” Now-Leader, Sept. 3.

I would like to comment on the illustration accompanying this article (see above).

This is quoted as being a page from a kids’ colouring page posted to nwdlc.ca. The page has not been coloured in but it appears that the message is plenty colourful, since the gesture by the handsome young woman denotes for many cultures a definite obscene expression.

It seems a peculiar choice for the NW Labour Council to allow its use in a colouring book, but even more questionable for this paper to print it.
