OUR VIEW: Liberals' spin on Surrey tax centre jobs is ludicrous

Trudeau speaks of “sunny ways,” but dark clouds are on the horizon for many of these Surrey workers.

Imagine if your boss sat you down and told you your job was moving to Quebec. No worries, though. The job is still yours – as long as you move with it.

This is what the Liberals are calling “choice.”

You see, in this scenario, you’re technically not losing your job – unless you “choose” not to move.

And if you don’t want to move to retain your position – you can always “choose” to take a demotion to stay closer to home. Or collect EI.

Horrendous.

Yet, this is the spin your Liberal MPs are putting on the federal government’s recent move to convert Surrey’s tax centre from a processing centre into a national verification and collection centre.

Time for a reality check. Who’s got it right?

The Liberals say the Surrey Tax Centre will actually grow in size and add jobs. But Conservative MP Dianne Watts says what they are not telling the workers is that these jobs will be “lower-level, lower-paid, non-complex jobs.”

The Liberals say they’re adding permanent jobs at “higher-paying levels and providing a more robust career path for employees.”

Uh... Alternate facts?

Those who stay in the Lower Mainland will be facing longer commutes, bridge tolls and all the costs and aggravation that involves. But those having to move to another province across the country? Ouch.

Trudeau speaks of “sunny ways,” but dark clouds are on the horizon for many of these Surrey workers.
