It appears that Surrey council believes that the Pattullo Bridge is an important truck traffic route bringing goods in from the Vancouver waterfront.
Not so much for New Westminster.
It is not only the Pattullo Bridge that needs replacing. Reports indicate the railway bridge is overdue for replacement. Whey not combine the two bridges and save some money? Tolls might not be necessary.
This would require a double-decker bridge, with the heavy train on the lower deck and road traffic on the upper deck.
The new route could follow the railway right-of-way out of the city of New Westminster, since the Royal City is too uppity to appreciate any business with Surrey.
It would speed up traffic, with few exits.
