Set up for 2014 failures

New Year's resolutions are destined to be left unfulfilled.

Without fail, each new year, we set ourselves up for failure by the making of new year’s resolutions.

Perhaps one reason for the futility of new year’s resolutions is that they are expressed in such general terms as to end up in procrastination and ensuing personal disappointment at their non-accomplishment.

Commendable intentions such as losing weight, more family time, quitting smoking, etc. are the familiar stuff resolutions are made of – only to be broken, leaving behind misgiving and despondency.

It’s been said that a new year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.

But Oscar Wilde maybe said it best: “Good resolutions are simply cheques that men draw on a bank where they have no account.”
