As some in Surrey wish the school system to return to the dark days of homophobia, bullying and repression I have to express my dismay.
Having seen the crippling effects of homophobia in school systems across this country; having taught at the graduate and undergraduate level in faculties of education; and having two children who have experienced public education in two provinces, I can only say that we must support students of all sexual orientations as they begin to understand their sexual identity.
The destructive force of hatred under the guise of protecting “the family” is one of which we must all be wary.
Families, just as human beings, come in all sizes and shapes and need our support.
