To tax and protect?

What is the benefit?

I had the opportunity to read through the HST Referendum Voters’ Guide sent out by the government. I wanted to draw people’s attention to one of the subtle ways that the government is trying to sway the vote in its favour.

On page three at the top it says the HST system protects seniors and low-income families. It states that home heating is HST-exempt.

I looked at my bills from FortisBC (formerly Terasen). Prior to the HST I paid five-per-cent GST on my natural gas bill. After the HST came in, I still pay five-per-cent on my natural gas bill. My question for the B.C. government is what is the difference and how does that affect anyone?

Just one item I found. I’m sure there are probably more.
