Fleetwood Park Secondary grad Nic Del Bianco has led Team BC a bronze medal in the men’s volleyball tournament at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Del Bianco, a member of the Trinity Western University volleyball team, led Team BC with 53 kills in five round robin contests.
James Bell, also of Surrey and a current member of the UBC-Okanagan Heat, contributed to the Team BC cause with 19 kills.
Team BC posted a 4-1 (won-lost) record in round robin play, then edged Manitoba 21-15, 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13 in a quarterfinal match Tuesday, before losing in straight sets (25-27, 23-25, 21-25) to Alberta in the semifinal round.
Team BC defeated Ontario 3-1 (25-14, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23) this morning (Thursday) to clinch the bronze medal. Del Bianco had 33 kills in the three playoff matches, with Bell adding nine.
