Burnsview to play for Fraser Valley championship

Girls soccer team from North Delta wins twice to advance to final

The Burnsview Griffins will play for the Fraser Valley Senior AA girls high school soccer championship next Wednesday in Coquitlam.

The Griffins, seeded third in the eight-team Fraser Valley tournament, has already clinched a berth to the provincial championships in Courtenay May 30. Burnsview defeat4d the sixth-seed St. John Brebeuf Bears in the first round Monday, then stopped the third-seed M.E.I. Eagles 3-1 yesterday (Wednesday). Both games were played in North Delta.

The Griffins will kick-off against the top-seed Archbishop Carney Stars in the final. The Stars have outscored their opposition 6-0 while winning twice.

The Surrey Christian Falcons will be seeking one of the two remaining Fraser Valley berths to the provincial tournament, but will need a win Monday to advance to Courtenay. The Falcons topped the Pitt Meadows Marauders 2-0 in a first-round game, with Carissa Redekopp netting both goals and Elijah LaCap earning the shutout.

Surrey Christian lost 2-0 to Archbishp Carney in Wednesday's semifinal game, and will play on the road against Abbotsford Traditional Monday. The Falcons will advance with a win, and will be eliminated with a loss.
